The Dressing Room Takes Centre Stage for one Night Only in Celebration

Summerside, Prince Edward Island, January 17, 2012 – Wyatt Heritage Properties, in partnership with the Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada Local Organizing Committee, is pleased to bring back The Dressing Room play for a one time only performance February 8th at the Harbourfront Jubilee Theatre in Summerside as part of Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada celebrations.

Produced by Wyatt Heritage Properties, The Dressing Room was originally performed in 2007. The two act play is a comedy/drama that takes a revealing peek into an old-timers’ hockey team dressing room at Cahill Stadium in its final days. Off limits to anyone other than the players, the dressing room becomes the place where men lay down their guard; opening themselves up to intimacy, friendship and the freedom of unconditional acceptance. They attempt to keep what happens in the dressing room behind closed doors.

The play has used the life and hockey career of Summerside native Paul MacWilliams as its primary inspiration. On the dramatic side, the play lays bare MacWilliams’ possible journey to the NHL in the 1960s and his struggle with alcohol; on the comical end, it takes a humorous peek into the very private dressing room of an old-timers’ hockey team.

The Dressing Room is a familiar Canadian story bringing together the world of hockey, and all that it promises, and the world of addiction, and all that it demands,” says playwright Marlene Campbell. “It was both a challenge and a privilege to bring to life Paul MacWilliams’ journey through both worlds from the sanctity of a dressing room occupied by an old timers team intent on doing what they do best in the dressing room.”

The catalyst for the play’s creation was the closure of Cahill Stadium in Summerside which came to a close in 2007 after a historic run.  The premise was to call it The Dressing Room, and it would include (the time in) the dressing room in between periods of a hockey game because there is often more action in the dressing room than there is out on the ice!

The evening will also include a special CBC hockey personalities as the event emcee.

The Dressing Room will take centre stage at 8:00pm on Wednesday, February 8th at the Harbourfront Jubliee Theatre in Summerside. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased through the Harbourfront Jubilee box office in person, online at www.harbourfronttheatre.com or by calling 1.800.705.6505. The Harbourfront Jubilee Theatre Box Office is open Monday – Saturday from 12:00pm until 5:30pm.
