The Dressing Room
Wednesday, February 8th (Harbourfront Jubilee Theatre, Summerside)
8:00pm

Produced by Wyatt Heritage Properties, The Dressing Room was originally performed in 2007 at The Harbourfront Jubilee Theatre in Summerside. For one time only, the play is being brought back as part of the Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada celebrations

The two act play is a comedy/drama that takes a revealing peek into an old-timers’ hockey team dressing room at Cahill Stadium in its final days. Off limits to anyone other than the players, the dressing room becomes the place where men lay down their guard; open themselves up to intimacy, friendship and the freedom of unconditional acceptance. They attempt to keep what happens in the dressing room behind closed doors.

The locally written play has used the life and hockey career of Summerside native Paul MacWilliams as its primary inspiration. On the dramatic side, the play lays bare MacWilliams’ possible journey to the NHL in the 1960s and his struggle with alcohol; on the comical end, it takes a humorous peek into the very private dressing room of an old-timers’ hockey team.  The Dressing Room appeals to a wide spectrum of audiences as they find themselves drawn into the story being revealed onstage.

The catalyst for the play’s creation was the closure of Cahill Stadium in Summerside which came to a close in 2007 after a historic run.  The premise was to call it The Dressing Room, and it would include (the time in) the dressing room in between periods of a hockey game because there is often more action in the dressing room than there is out on the ice!

Stolen From A Hockey Card Concert
Thursday, February 9th (Confederation Centre of the Arts – Homburg Theatre, Charlottetown)
8:00pm

Hosted by CBC’s Ron MacLean, Stolen From a Hockey Card is a hockey-themed concert which pays tribute to Canada’s love and passion for the game of hockey. The impressive all-Canadian line-up of artists for the concert includes songstress Sarah Harmer, Chris Murphy (Sloan), Lennie Gallant, Stephen Stanley (Lowest of the Low), Carmen Townsend, Liam Corcoran (Two Hours Traffic), Bidiniband and former New York Islanders great and Hockey Hall of Fame member Bryan Trottier.

Each artist will write their own hockey-themed song which they will perform for the first time as part of the concert. In addition to their newly-written hockey song, each artist will also perform one of their own original songs. Bidiniband, featuring Dave Bidini, formerly of acclaimed rock band The Rheostatics and creator of the Stolen From a Hockey Card concert, will serve as house band for the evening.

The name “Stolen From a Hockey Card” is in reference to a lyric from the Tragically Hip’s song “50 Mission Cap”. The song is a tribute to Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Bill Barilko.
